Falls can happen to anyone, but simple exercises can significantly reduce your risk. Our falls prevention programme focuses on improving your balance, building leg strength, and increasing your confidence.

This service can only be accessed via a referral from a falls prevention physiotherapist – you can speak to your GP or Practice Nurse about making a referral for you.

Who is the scheme for?
The scheme is for older adults who have fallen before or who are at risk of falling. To join, you’ll need a referral from a falls prevention physiotherapist.
How do I get referred?
Speak to your GP or practice nurse and ask to be referred to a falls prevention physiotherapist. They will assess you and arrange the referral if the programme is suitable.
How much does it cost?
The exercise sessions are completely free.
What happens in the classes?
Each class includes a range of gentle exercises to improve:
- Strength
- Balance
- Flexibility
- Coordination
- Confidence when moving
Exercises are adapted to your own level and may include chair-based movements or supported standing work.
Who leads the sessions?
All classes are delivered by qualified **Postural Stability Instructors (PSI)** who are specially trained to support people at risk of falling.
How long does the programme last?
You’ll attend a one-hour group exercise session every week, for up to 9 months..
Where are the classes held?
There are weekly face-to-face sessions at several venues across Oldham, plus online classes available via Zoom if you prefer to join from home.
Can transport be arranged?
Yes, transport can be organised if needed. There may be a small cost depending on your circumstances.
