Oldham Active Helps Bring Record-Breaking Eid Run to Life
More than 1,200 primary school pupils came together at Alexandra Park to celebrate the annual Eid Run, raising vital funds for Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice while promoting the importance of physical activity, community spirit and inclusion.
Behind the scenes, Oldham Active played a key role in planning and delivering the successful event, working alongside Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice, Oldham Council and local schools to ensure the day ran safely and smoothly.
Preparation for the event began months in advance, with Pete Jackson of the Oldham Active Coaching team supporting the overall planning process, liaising with Oldham Council to secure the use of Alexandra Park, mapping out the 2km route and coordinating event logistics.
Working closely with Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice, Oldham Active also organised volunteers into designated marshal positions across the course, helping to ensure participants, staff and spectators enjoyed a safe and well-managed event.
One of the biggest elements of the project was engaging local schools. Oldham Active led communication with schools across the borough, encouraging participation, managing registrations and coordinating the event timetable to accommodate the large number of pupils attending throughout the day.

On the day itself, the team welcomed schools as they arrived, supported teachers and volunteers, and acted as marshals around the route to keep the event running efficiently.
The Eid Run continues to grow each year, bringing together schools from across Oldham to celebrate Eid through physical activity while raising awareness and funds for Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice. The event not only encourages children to be active but also helps strengthen links between education, health and community organisations.
Oldham Active is proud to have supported an event that promotes inclusion, celebrates the borough’s diverse communities and demonstrates the power of partnership working.
By working alongside Doctor Kershaw’s Hospice, Oldham Council, local schools and volunteers, the event showcased what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared goal of improving health, wellbeing and community connections across Oldham.
We would like to thank everyone who took part, volunteered or supported the event and look forward to helping make next year’s Eid Run even bigger and better.
